About the Township Association of Business

Township Association of Business (T.A.B.)

T.A.B. is a non-profit organization established in 1971 as an entirely independent business group to form an association for the communities. T.A.B. is specifically directed to Business Community Development to promote, sustain, protect and oversee the general needs of the business interests of Commercial, Industrial and Professional business operating in North Huntingdon and surrounding communities.

Community Involvement

T.A.B. took the lead in pursuing a retail postoffice outlet for North Huntingdon Township. T.A.B. maintains constant communication with commissioners and all other officials, staying aware of local issues, and having input when requested by the officials. T.A.B. keeps in close communications with County representatives and meets with State representatives on the national level. The Small Business Development Center with Saint Vincent College works with T.A.B. in updating business plans for current businesses or works with new businesses in setting up their business plan.

North Huntingdon Industrial Park: Dedicated in July 1993, T.A.B. was instrumental in working with County Commissioners to establish this 1.5 million dollar project, at no cost to the township. All agreed that this 62-acre site would bring new jobs and stronger tax base for Economic Progress.

Sewage: T.A.B. has been instrumental in obtaining the sewage system for the Township.

Display Advertisements: Identification Bill Boards on the Route 30 corridor did not have to be relocated, as T.A.B. saved the local businesses the high costs of moving their signs 10 feet back from Route 30. T.A.B. has updated and printed a new North Huntingdon Township map with all new housing developments and street changes.

North Huntingdon Township On Map: North Huntingdon Township was placed on the 1995-1996 Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Map. T.A.B. initiated this project and through the efforts of T.A.B. working with Harrisburg officials, we had a home on the map. This supported the businesses in bringing identify to our North Huntingdon Community, for residents and businesses. A 4’ x 8’ sign was erected on the Turn Pike at Exit 7.

"LERTA" Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance Act: Introduced to local officials to encourage industry and manufacturers to expand into North Huntingdon Industrial park. (Westmoreland County Industrial Park IV.). This resolution was adopted into the Township on February 1995.

MAGLEV: T.A.B. has shown their support for the high-speed MAGLEV project that is being proposed for southwestern Pennsylvania. The Pittsburgh Maglev project is one of several competing nationally for federal transportation funds that will be awarded. If selected, Pennsylvania would receive more than $900 million towards the construction of a fifty-five mile segment running from the Pittsburgh Airport to Greensburg with stops in Downtown Pittsburgh and Monroeville. With TAB’s support, the economic impact that this MAGLEV project would have on the entire region and the positive impact that a high-speed system would have on the area’s quality of life.

FOOTHILLS FOOTBALL CLASSIC: T.A.B. has put in motion the 1st ALL-STAR Football Game in 1996. We are proud to announce our 10th anniversary celebration this year. The T.A.B. office is very fortunate to have many outstanding businesses throughout our communities sponsor our Classic. Working with the Westmoreland County Coaches Association and many area businesses we were able to bring to Western Pennsylvania an exciting and memorable weekend event. The proceeds have been earmarked for economic development, community reinvestment and scholarships for the communities. It takes an enormous amount of dedicated hard work that many community men and women volunteer their time for the youth of today. The game brings together approximately 75 high school all-star football players from approximately 33 school districts located in Allegheny, Fayette and Westmoreland Counties.

COMMUNITY REINVESTMENT: T.A.B. is involved in reinvesting in our communities. We have been involved in Meals-on-Wheels; Toys For Tots;

Local Blood Drives; 911 Fund with United Way; Candlelight Ceremony held Oct 7 for the local 911 victims; Children’s Hospital Fund; and Special Olympics. Our goal is to continue to work with the businesses and communities to create growth and economic development. We are here to continue to build better and stronger communities for our children.
